I'm a child of God, wife, mother of two, and K-12 Substitute Teacher. We currently live in San Diego and my hobbies include singing, exercising, and adventuring. I started this blog as a way to hold myself accountable on my walk with God, inspire women to embrace their God-given worth, and share some wellness tips.

I didn't always have a clear sense of purpose. Quite frankly, I struggled with knowing my calling and feeling worthy, for most of my adult life. Always comparing myself to others, working myself into the ground, looking for that career that would make my life perfect... But I didn't start to notice God's work in me, until I became a mom. I realized that pouring my heart into people is more important than spending my days trying to make money. I learned that my priorities in life had been out of order and this was probably the cause of most of my struggles. But most importantly, I am learning that life will always be chaotic, when I act without listening to God. He knows me, loves me, and chose me to do something amazing for His kingdom.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

3 Tips for Successful New Years Resolutions


I meant to write this closer to the New Year but being sick put a damper on that. Good new is that you still have 357 days to get your resolutions accomplished.

It's a new year and we all view it as a new beginning - the perfect time to start over or try again. That's where resolutions come into play. We all make them and we all, at some point, roll our eyes at the idea of them. But the truth is that it is POSSIBLE to ACCOMPLISH your resolutions. Here are 3 tips to help make your New Year's resolutions a reality:

1. Keep it S.M.A.R.T.

Is your resolution specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based? The chances that you will accomplish a goal that meets these criteria is substantially greater than one that doesn't. You should be able to specify exactly what you want to accomplish, in a way that can be measured and is realistic for the timeframe you're setting, For example, a popular resolution is "I'm going to start going to the gym". Awesome! But what does that look like? If you think it through, you'll be more likely to keep it up. A S.M.A.R.T version of this resolution would be, "I will go to Planet Fitness, three times a week, and exercise for 30 minutes. I will do this until my 29th birthday on March 21st." Now you know where you're going, when you're going and for how long!

2. Master Uni-tasking vs. Multi-tasking

This is one that I just started to work on and makes so much sense. I've always boasted about my ability to multi-task 'efficiently', and then I became a mom and felt like I lost my mojo. It's easy to take on a bunch of goals, when your only responsibility is yourself. But even then, you may not have been as efficient as you thought.

When I get pumped up about new beginnings, I end up getting carried away by the visionary side of me and decide that I'm going to drink water, meal plan, exercise, and listen to 2 hours of coaching every day. I, MAYBE, get it done one day and then get mad that I can't keep up and give up all together.

The average person needs to do something consistently for 66 days for it to become a habit. So a more efficient way to approach my many resolutions is tackle them ONE AT A TIME and then add on, once I master the first. So I might decide to drink water every day for 66 days, then tackle meal planning for another 66 days, and so on. With this game plan, I would accomplish my four resolutions and still have 102 days left to spare. So I still got it all done, without feeling overwhelmed!

3. Break It Down

Some resolutions can seem big and scary, and that alone can stall your progress. But something that I've learned in the past 5 years is that time will pass regardless, so why not reach that goal? This is where we need to take control over our mind. Let's say that your resolution is to lose 100 pounds this year (and you already made sure it was S.M.A.R.T.). At first glance, this resolution could be overwhelming. But setting weekly, monthly, and quarterly milestones can make it less intimidating and still allow for flexibility. Did you know 100 pounds in a year is equal to 1.92 pounds a week, 8.33 pounds a month, and 25 pounds a quarter? That's so doable and way less scary!
